Most small businesses run their numbers through two people. A bookkeeper enters the data, and an accountant does the tax at the end of the year. It's the normal setup and it's fine for compliance. The catch is that nobody in it is asked whether the work you're doing is actually making money. The person closest to your numbers isn't looking for it, and the person who could spot it only sees the file once a year.

That's the gap I sit in. Job costing that shows which jobs paid and which ones quietly didn't. Rate cards that carry every cost, including the ones nobody has loaded in. Cashflow forecasting, so the BAS and the super never arrive as a surprise.

I do the bookkeeping itself, because that's the only way the rest of it is worth anything. When the same person enters the data and reads it, problems surface in March instead of at tax time. Advisory built on someone else's unchecked file is just confident guessing. You keep your accountant for the tax. I handle everything before it.
